Elemental Information
Holy Gadolinium, Batman, who discovered this Gd element? We're not sure, but he's close to our hearts, since Gd is a magnetic metal of the rare-earth group, and you know how we love rare earth magnets. This excellent 38-1/2" x 26-3/4" poster of the Periodic Table lists the elemental information about Gd and 117 other elements, and includes mini-biographies of (7) scientists. The full-color poster is not laminated, but is a good quality coated paper, and a fascinating addition to any classroom.

Magnif Lamp
Magnificent magnifier lamp! Great for hobby work, stamp or coin collecting, needlepoint, sewing and crafts, even reading if your eyes are "mature". The plastic "head" assembly has a 3.5" dia, 3 diopter magnifying lens and a socket with switch for an incandescent lamp (60 Watt max.) This is mounted on the end of an arm the other end of which clamps to the table top. The arm has (2) roughly 15" long sections and swivels at the clamp to allow precise positioning over your work. Rotary Tool Set
Not every well-made rotary tool is a big-D. We consider this one not only a good-quality tool, but an excellent buy. The fitted plastic carrying case 12" x 8-1/2" x 3-1/2" contains not only the 120VAC-powered 8,000-30,000 rpm mini grinder, but a stand with a C-clamp to mount it on a bench or table, a 3-ft extension shaft, and a good assortment of bits, grinding stones, cut-off wheels, etc, including collets to fit 1/8" and 1/16" bits. The telescoping stand extends from 10" to almost 22" and holds the tool above your work, while you grind, sand, cut, etc., with the tip of the convenient, easy-to-grip, flexible extension. A nice package, and a very nice gift for yourself, or for anyone who enjoys working with hobby tools.

Camera Tripod
A tripod with true portability -- It weighs only 2 lbs, the 4-ft aluminum legs (which can be locked down independently at any length) telescope to a convenient 22", and it slips easily into a zippered black-nylon quiver. The mast, which has a standard 1/4-20 camera mount and a built-in level, can be cranked up (literally) another 9-1/2". The manufacturer doesn't say how much weight the tripod will bear, but we'd keep it to under 10 lbs. Very nice for the money.

Attach Anything!
You need this. Anybody who's ever made a third trip to the hardware store on the same day needs this. The (100) -- count 'em, (100) -- chrome vanadium driver and bit attachments include slotted, Phillips, square (Robertson) head, torx, hex and 12-point bits, plus security Phillips, torx and hex, and (4) different driver adapters (one of which, a super-cute cup-hook driver, has us oddly excited). They're all in a flip-top plastic case. How come it's surplus? If you turn it upside down and shake it, some of the bits fall out of their little size-marked slots. So don't do that. Or stick a thin sheet of foam inside it and all will be well.

Monster Sheet Magnet
It's the biggest fridge magnet in the world, 47-3/4" long x 7-1/4" wide x .024" thick. It's red vinyl, with a corner lopped off 4" from one end and a 1/4" wide mottled white strip around the edges-and it's just crying to be written on with a marker, dry-erase or otherwise. Our fashion buyers are just back from the shows in Milan with these brand new, nice quality, 80% poly/20% cotton lab coats. These are Euro-sizes, which generally (and generously) match chest circumference. The 42 has 34-1/2" sleeves, and the 48 has 36". All are about 39" long, which means fingertip length or mid-thigh, depending on how long you are. Think men's small, large and XL. They're all five-button, with one breast pocket and two large side pockets and have no name or embroidery added. Notched lapels, no vent-just what all the best-dressed technicians are wearing this season.

World's Best Lens Cleaner
Rexton lens and optical surface cleaner cleans all optical surfaces: lenses, mirrors, prisms, windows, slides and leaves no haze. It cleans plastic or glass camera lenses, coated or uncoated. We have given some to our telescope supplier, who is an expert in such matters, and he says it is the best he has ever seen. You can even clean painted and metal surfaces. Comes in an 8 oz squeeze bottle with a flip up squirter. Absolutely the last word in cleaning for optics.

Probe Something Hot
With a good-quality digital probe thermometer from Sper Scientific. Measures -50° to 200°C and -58° to 392°F in 0.1 degree increments. The red-plastic case measures 3-3/8" x 1" x 9/16" with a 3-1/2" long pointed metal probe. The LCD readout is 1-1/4" x 1/2" and the unit comes with a replaceable button cell battery and a click-on probe cover. Has min/max, temperature hold, and last-reading functions, and the probe (but not the LCD) is submersible.

We've Got A Handle
Well, we've got a handle on this one, anyway. And it needs one, cuz it'll grab onto (and hold onto) 100 lbs if the surface is flat. Which means you've got an instant handle for moving big steel stuff. With its open-ended handle, it even works as a no-installation hook on an I-beam. Handle and magnet together are 5" long x 3-1/2" tall x 1' thick, with a plastic body for the ceramic magnets, and a rubberized grip. Paul says it's quite, well, handy.

You need to hang on? Try the suction-cup Safety Grip Handle from Ideaworks®. Stick it on tile, marble or any similarly smooth surface, push the blue tabs, and it hangs on tight, although (and we say this with those pesky liability issues firmly in mind) we don't think we'd use it in our grandmother's bathroom in lieu of the permanent kind. In white plastic, 11-1/2" long, it would also make a nice grab bar for a fiberglass boat, glass handler for the shop, goofy roof accessory for a small car, or prop telephone.
